A video conference was held with Grade 7, 8, and 9 learners from Egypt, Ukraine, Turkey, Rwanda, and India to discuss truth and the impact of fake news on social media. Students shared what truth means to them and why it is important for trust and informed decision-making.

They then discussed fake news, giving examples like manipulated images and false rumors, and reflected on its harmful effects – spreading misinformation, harming reputations, and reducing trust. Learners also explored reasons behind the spread of fake news.

To tackle this issue, they suggested fact-checking, verifying sources, and promoting critical thinking. The discussion was meaningful and highlighted a shared global concern, encouraging students to be responsible with the information they consume and share.
